Last year, I decided I wanted to make some changes to my home office aka woman cave and create a space to enjoy working and relaxing in. I envisioned the style, design, and ambiance that I wanted it to reflect. The thought for the revamp first came to mind around summer July 2022. The revamp would be a process because I would have to move to another area in our home. The new space was originally my husband home office of the past 10 years that he had become somewhat attached to. We mutually decided that he would move his office to another area in our home and I would indeed use his old office space. First things first, I knew the office would have to be painted. It was a natural tan and had a few spots of wear and tear over the years and we decided it needed a fresh coat of paint.
The vision was to create a space that I could work in as well as relax in on my leisure. My must-haves would include a new desk with storage, a sofa bed or sleeper, and a large shelf to store office supplies and decor. Fortunately, I was able to bring in a few items from my old office.
After a fresh coat of paint that totally transformed the space, I made my first purchase. It was a Modern Stainless Steel Frame Computer Desk with Gold Legs in High Gloss from Best Master Furniture from Target. I chose this desk because it had the modern aesthetics and storage for organization that I needed. The desk I had prior was L-shaped, which was great, but it did not have any storage. My husband was in need of a new desk with more space so the L-shaped desk would be his new desk. Check out the L-shaped desk I had prior vs the new desk I purchased. As previously mentioned, another one of my must-haves included a sofa-bed or sleeper. Since this new space was originally a bedroom, I still wanted to have a space for guest to sleep when visiting. I then recalled a recent trip to the IKEA store while visiting family in Cibalo, Texas and seeing a sleeper sofa that I loved. I began my search for it on the IKEA website and found it immediately! It was the Holmsund Sleeper Sofa and I purchased it in Nordvalla Beige. Since there are no IKEA stores in Alabama, the shipment took 2 weeks to be delivered. I love this sofa because you can actually switch out the linen. Yes! You heard that correctly. You can change the color of the sofa. This was really important especially for decor purposes and future makeovers.
Once the sofa was installed, the vision for the rest of the decor began to form. I absolutely loved the pillows that came with the sofa but I wanted a designer look. I wanted to keep the neutral, gray, and white color scheme throughout my office so I purchased solid colored pillows. I began my search locally at the At Home store because of their massive pillow collection to choose from. Just as expected, I found some beautiful down-filled pillows that gave me the exact look I was going for.
In my previous office, I had the IKEA Lack Wall Shelf Unit that I purchased during the pandemic that I brought along to this new office. This unit can be used for so many things. However, I use it mostly for decor and to store my most used work day items. It is lightweight, easy to wipe clean using a damp cloth and mild cleaner, and it coordinates very well with other furniture in the series. Screws, however, for wall mounting purposes are not included.
The wall space behind my IKEA sleeper sofa was in need of wall decor. I decided to go with wall art and found these 2 beautiful pieces from Amazon! I was reluctant to order them online but I'm so glad I did because they are so beautiful. Pictures online just don't do them justice.
I am a big fan of greenery and had to have a few pieces throughout my office space. I purchased this faux Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree from Hobby Lobby. I like a combination of real and faux when decorating.
For curtains, I went with white because I wanted a light and airy ambiance throughout my office. I found these stunning Linen Curtains which are energy efficient, light filtering, and came in a Set of 2. They were also purchased from Amazon and at a great price.
Again, pictures do not serve them justice, they are absolutely beautiful in person. For the rods, I did not want the standard black curtain rods so I opted for a gold rod with gold rings instead and I love how it turned out.
One thing I did not enjoy in my last space was seeing cords hanging everywhere. I knew I wanted a cordless lamp this time around to eliminate cords as much as possible near my desk, especially since my desk would be in sitting in the middle of the room and not against a wall. After a brief search, I found the cutest, gold minimalistic cordless lamp from of course, Amazon! It fit the aesthetic of my office and vision perfectly. While I do wish that the battery charge lasted longer, it still works for the time frame that I need.
Another thing wanted was a clothing rack. I figure it would be useful to organize my work attire like blazers, pantsuits, etc. If you know me, you know I love a good suit or blazer. The clothing rack is gold and marble which happens to go perfectly with the marble collection I have throughout my office.
Lastly, my absolute must-have was a shelf or bookcase of some sort to use for organization and styling purposes. I had been eyeing a few options from IKEA and knew once I was ready, I would purchase the Billy/Oxberg Bookcase with glass doors.

Now that we have seen all the pieces, here is the after of how everything came together!
